This recipe was taken from Kōloa Elementary School’s 1987 Staff Cookbook. It originates from Frances Gandingan, who was a lunch supervisor at the time. To this day, it is still a hit.

Ingredients:

Crust:

1 cupbutter (softened but not melted)
½ tspvanilla
⅔ cupsugar
1 - ½ cupflour (sifted)
1 - ¼ cupchopped walnuts (optional)

Filling:

2 - 8 ozcream cheese (softened)
2large eggs

½ cup

sugar
1 tspvanilla

Topping:

1 large canBartlett Pears
2 tbspcinnamon
2 tbspsugar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  2. Crust: Mix together, press into 9 x 13 pan, and bake for 15 minutes
  3. Filling: Beat ingredients until smooth. Pour on to cooked crust
  4. Topping: Drain, slice and arrange pear on top of cream mixture. Sprinkle mixture of cinnamon and sugar over top. Bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes
  5. Cut into squares when cool
  6. Refrigerate
