This dish is special because my dad and I cook this dish on Friday nights. This recipe is a tribute to where my father grew up. His mother cooked this dish for him and now he is teaching it to me. This recipe has a fusion of the local culinary culture of Hawaii. I love this dish and I hope you do too.

1 can (15 oz)kidney beans
1onion, diced
2 lbsground beef
1 pkgchili mix
1Portuguese sausage, diced
1 can (15 oz)diced tomatoes

  1. Place the ground beef in a large pot. Cook over medium heat until browned. Drain off the excess fat.
  2. Chop Portuguese sausage and cook in a separate pot over medium heat until browned
  3. Add diced onions to the Portuguese sausage and cook until soft
  4. Add cooked ground beef, kidney beans, diced tomatoes and chili mix
  5. Stir together well, cover, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve with rice or tortilla chips
