Maha'ulepu Access Closed for DOH Water Testing
You are here
Maha‘ulepu access temporarily closed beginning September 26, 2016 while Department of Health conducts additional water testing.
PUHI, KAUAI – At the direction of the State of Hawaii Department of Health, Grove Farm’s affiliate, Maha‘ulepu Farm LLC, will be closing its access gates leading to Maha‘ulepu beach as the Department of Health conducts additional water testing. The closure will begin on September 26th and is expected to last for approximately two months, through the end of November.
The Department of Health, prompted by complaints from the Surfrider Foundation and Friends of Maha‘ulepu, will conduct further testing in the area. With the large number of injection wells, cesspools and sewage plants in the Poipu/Koloa area, the testing will reduce uncertainty about bacteria sources on the South Shore of Kauai. The Department of Health’s first phase of testing concluded that the proposed dairy had no significant impact.

The area will need to be closed to preserve the quality of the testing and to ensure that the tests are not compromised. Upon completion of the testing, Maha‘ulepu Farm intends to reopen its private roads to the public. We ask for the public’s understanding during this temporary inconvenience.
